Additions to records, 1791-1939.

Records of the Humane Society, a charitable organization which maintained life-boats and rescue stations along the Mass. coast and provided instruction in lifesaving. The records consist of twenty letterbooks (1854-1910) of retained copies of outgoing correspondence, including letters written by Robert Bennet Forbes and B.W. Crowninshield; an equipment log for lifesaving stations (ca. 1888-93); eight account books (1804-1926); and a record of lighthouses and lifesaving stations (1883-1910). There are also typed copies of by-laws and rules, lists of members, and a box of wills and probate records relating to gifts to the Humane Society. The additions also include negative photostatic copies of original "Records" (minutes, etc.; 1857-1917) which remain in the Humane Society office, and an account book (1791-1813).
